Celebrating the Year of The Cat with {Reformulated} Wellness® Complete Health™ Cat Food #HealthyMeetsHappy

This post is sponsored by Wellness® and the BlogPaws® Pet Influencer Network™. I am being compensated to help share the availability of Wellness® Complete Health™ and NEW Complete Health Grain Free Cat Food available at PetSmart, but Momma Kat and Her Bear Cat only shares information we feel is relevant to our readers. BC: Bear Cat
MK: Momma Kat

{Bear hears the key in the front door lock}

BC: OH! You're here! You're here! You're ...
{Pause}
BC: Oh. It's YOU.
MK: Wait ... what?
BC: You're not who I thought would come through the door.
MK: BEAR! I live here! Who else would come through the door?
BC: Tasty whole chickens! Torties! HEEEEEELLLO, torties!
MK: Why would chickens or torties have a key to our front door?
BC: Phht! Because I sent out copies of our key to my top ten favorite torties and the ten closest tasty whole chicken farms!
MK: YOU DID WHAT?!?! Why didn't you tell me?
BC: Because I knew you'd get mad!
{Pause}
BC: Uh oh.
MK: {sigh}.
{Pause}
BC: Where were you?
MK: I got some special food for you, Bear!
BC: Oh! OH! Tasty whole chickens? Where are ... they're NOT in that plastic bag from PetSmart are they?
MK: Oh, for the ... NO tasty whole chickens!!
BC: Sheesh! You don't have to get all GRUMPY about it!
MK: {sigh} Even better than tasty whole chickens.
BC: French fries? The Boy brought me french fries again?

MK: That should've never happened.
BC: Your trip, and you leaving me with The Boy, should've never happened. Just saying.
MK: I'm sorry ...
BC: So what? You got more chicken-ish food for me?
MK: Chicken-ish?
BC: Chicken-ish is food that SAYS it's chicken but is really a bunch of components that you can't pronounce, are completely inappropriate for a cat's natural diet, or are just fillers. Chicken-ish is also the less desirable parts of the chicken ... you know, the parts I wouldn't touch if I hunted the bird myself. NOT real chicken.
MK: I got you more of the Wellness® Complete Health™ canned foods from PetSmart.

BC: HIIIIIIIIIIIIII!
MK: You didn't have Wellness before they reformulated their Complete Health™ line, but I like that so much of the line is grain-free - including the new grain-free dry foods: Deboned Chicken and Chicken Meal for adult kitties, Salmon and Herring Meal especially formulated for indoor kitties, and Deboned Chicken and Chicken Meal for kittens.

{Pause}
MK: I LOVE that the animal lovers, nutritionists, and vets at Wellness chose ingredients carefully and made sure to balance the formulas with vitamins and minerals to make cat food that's optimal for a cat's health. It sounds so obvious ... but the reality is that many brands don't take into account cats' needs - but instead choose ingredients that sound good to people but aren't appropriate for cats. For Wellness cat food, each ingredient has a well-studied purpose and health benefit ... with the goal of helping people provide their pets, "healthy and long lives through the power of natural nutrition." It's a huge responsibility to choose the best foods for you - especially since you eat essentially the same thing every day so it must be balanced and accommodate all your nutritional needs. Wellness makes it easy to do my job, so you can enjoy your food without a care other than if it tastes good.
BC: Blah, blah, blah.
MK: Exactly. You prove my point. You can just enjoy the food without having to worry about all the details ... like that Wellness® Complete Health™ recipes DO NOT contain corn, carrageenan, soy, wheat, or artificial colors and flavors.
BC: Car ... cara ... Huh?
MK: Exactly. As you said about "chicken-ish" food - not only is it important to make sure your food contains the RIGHT ingredients - but it's JUST as important to make sure your food doesn't contain harmful ingredients or those that aren't palatable to a cat's diet ... like fillers. For me, since cats are obligate carnivores, QUALITY protein content is one of the most important factors. Wellness uses natural, premium proteins and necessary nutrients for a balanced diet and lifetime wellbeing.
BC: Yeah, yeah. WHATEVER. We all know I'm a wet food connoisseur and I really like all the GRAIN-FREE different textures available in the Complete Health™ wet food line. With FIVE different textures, I never get bored. My favorites are the gravies. What cat doesn't like gravy?

MK: Yes, they created Gravies to add moisture to the diet of picky kitties - or kitties that struggle to drink enough water. I'm lucky that you drink plenty of water.
BC: Did I mention GRAVY?!?!?! THAT'S what I care about! But the other textures are good too! The Morsels, Minced, and Sliced textures include different cuts of meat in that tasty irresistible gravy.

MK: All grain and carrageenan-free! And your favorite gravy provides kitties with a source of additional hydration.
BC: Yeah, yeah. Whatever. There are so many different flavors that any kitty will be satisfied. I'm not a big fan of other brands' Pate textures ...
MK: But you gobbled the Wellness® Complete Health™ wet food Pates down!
BC: My favorite is the beef and chicken.
MK: Full of everything a cat needs for nutrition, without the ingredients you don't!
BC: Why hunt when there are wholesome, natural, and well-balanced cat foods available?
MK: Ummm ... Bear? YOU? HUNT?!?!
BC: I hunt ALL THE TIME! Ask mousie!

MK: Yes, well, you're also well-known for hunting The Boy and I.
BC: I didn't earn the nickname Bear "The Jaws" Cat for nothing!
MK: Guess what else I found out about Wellness?
BC: Just feed me my food! One of the gravies!!! If you're still talking after I scarf this down, I MIGHT listen to what you're saying.

{Momma opens a can of Wellness® Complete Health™ Gravies - Chicken flavor and spoons out Bear's wet food treat}
BC: OH! Feed me! Feed me now! Gravy! And chicken! And gravy AND chicken!!!
MK: Here.

BC: Oooooooooh, YEEEEEEEESS. Chicken and gravy - here Bear Cat comes! Nomnomnomnomnomnomnomnom.

The Boy: He really likes that food we got him at PetSmart, doesn't he?
MK: Yep. I'm glad Wellness® Complete Health™ is healthy, wholesome, and natural AND he loves it so much he calls everything else "chicken-ish."
The Boy: You said something about finding out something else about Wellness?
MK: Yes! Because they are concerned about long-term sustainability and they support recycling efforts, Wellness is the first pet food company based in the United States to partner with upcycle/recycle innovator TerraCycle® to recycle Wellness® Complete Health™, Wellness® Complete Health™ Grain-Free, and Wellness® CORE dry food packaging.

The Boy: That's a great idea.
MK: It gets even better! The program is FREE and can help your favorite schools and non-profit organizations! When you ship your Wellness dry food packaging into Terracycle FOR FREE, each pound equals one hundred points; those points can be redeemed for gifts or cash for your selected school or non-profit.
The Boy: Sounds like a win-win all around ... helping the Earth, helping organizations we care about ... and it's FREE!
BC: Are you still talking? Because I could use some more wet food!
MK: Bear, you know you only get a certain amount each day.
BC: But ... but ... I LIKE it! And it's HEALTHY!
MK: No.
BC: FINE! I'll wait until you're busy with something else and I'll ask The Boy!
MK: He won't fall for that.
BC: He did yesterday! And HE gave me HALF THE ...
The Boy: BEAR!!!
{Pause}
BC: Uh oh. You've reached Bear Cat ... I'm not home, but I have the right to remain silent since everything I say DEFINITELY is used against me! BEEP!

  2. We're on a prescription diet now, but we've used Wellness on the past. It would still be on our grocery list if we could.

  3. That Wellness is great food but there are just too many here to feed so it is a little out our range financially. Looks like you really liked it Bear. Have a wonderful day.

    1. Yes, it is more expensive than many foods - and that's a problem for us too. We're lucky we got the opportunity to try Wellness even though it's normally out of our price range :)

    1. My Momma's first cat used to spit out the chunks after getting all the gravy off them. I'm not quite so hard core ... but gravy is definitely my favorite. ~Bear Car

  5. Grain-free food for cats is super good, for sure. I mean... When was the last time you saw a clowder of cats preparing rice and wheat casseroles? I mean... WHEN? purrs

    1. I like chicken and rice dry food ... but you are right about grains. Momma's first cat, Kitty, got whatever HER Mom bought for her. Years later, she developed diabetes and my Momma always suspected the grains/carbs in the food were the culprit. Cats need protein! ~Bear Cat

  7. You know I have that very same problem when peep comes to the door instead of the dairy maid. I mean some folks just haven't got their priorities sorted, and we d o have a tradespersons entrance round the back peep could squeeze in, where the coal comes in. Hmm that food sounds yummy, though I'm not one for gravy unless theres a mouse involved having it from all natural without grain is just what it should be.

    1. Exactly! Cats need quality proteins ... not the "hot dog" equivalent of proteins! You make me want to try cream and mouse. Mouses 'n Cream? ~Bear Cat

  10. Thanks for a fine review. We have not had any of the Wellness foods. We only eat pate, but as they have that, we'll ask Dad to get us some. Fiona really liked the Wellness Kittles treats. 1. We bet you'll love it! Isn't it funny how personal preferences develop? For instance, all of your cats prefer pate ... but Bear and Kitty both always chose chunks and gravy. It would seem that there's some learning going on among themselves ... or maybe we just choose the same "kind" of cats over and over again ;)

  11. I don't think your Momma would mind if 10 torties showed up at your door, Bear. (Now how am I going to lure Mudpie away from mailbox while she waits for her key to arrive???)

  15. I love that so many pet food companies are going grain free. The fact they recycle their packaging is a giant plus too!

    1. YES! Especially with cats being obligate carnivores! I've seen so much research on the stuff put into cat food (like vegetables) that the companies claim as a plus ... and people believe, because it's true of us. Treating our fur babies as little humans health-wise is always dangerous.

  16. Wow...looks tasty BC. We have to be picky here because of Kali but we manage....I have a tad of a kitty pouch so I guess starving I'm not. The picture of you with a mouse was top notch...we love it.

  18. Gravy?! What kitty doesn't love gravy? I informed Mom that you gave the food a great review, so she must buy me some Wellness gravy noms! Bear, is that the mousie you got from the BlogPaws swag? Maybe I not allergic to Wellness gravies as I am with gravies of so many other brands, according to Mom. Wellness should give you a star on your belly!

    1. You can be allergic to gravy?!?! THAT REALLY SUCKS! Yes, it was the mousie wand toy ... my Momma learned her lesson last year. I refused to give up playing ... and after a couple marathon sessions, I never played with the toys again. This year, she's only letting me play for a half hour at a time! Phht. ~Bear Cat

  20. We switched Samantha to the Complete Health dry before I went to BlogPaws. She's not as fussy about dry, so I knew she'd be fine with that. But when I brought home some samples of those new Gravies from the conference, I was amazed at how much she loves them! Just like Bear Cat, she is always looking for more (shhh....don't tell him I sometimes give her more).
