Pet Blogger Showcase 11/19/2016

Twice a month, Bear and I co-host a Pet Blogger Linky Party along with co-hosts PetFaves, Heart Like A Dog, and Felines OpinesIf you missed the last Pet Blogger Showcase, you can view it here: Pet Blogger Showcase 11/05/2016; past weeks as a co-host ... Pet Blogger Showcase 10/01/2016 and Pet Blogger Showcase 10/15/2016.

Why do Bear and I like blog hops and linky parties?
  • We've met so many incredible new friends we'd never find otherwise. For the majority of blogs Bear and I visit on a regular basis, probably eighty percent of them or more we found through participating in blog hops.
  • With the variety of blogs that participate, there's so much to learn for those of us who can never know enough. Not to mention that there are a lot of touching, fascinating, or otherwise unique stories to be told outside of one's "niche."
  • They are great ways to build relationships within the blogging community. When Momma recently went through a tough time emotionally, our blogging friends were our best supports. So building relationships with other bloggers isn't just about increasing readership, but also connecting in meaningful ways that can often be lost behind a computer screen.

If you join our Party, please link to a specific post from your blog instead of to your blog's homepage. Since each co-host chooses three posts from the last Party to feature each week - you increase your chances of being chosen by giving us a specific post and not the more general homepage. In keeping with the tradition of this particular linky party, my three favorite link ups from the last Showcase follow.

As an animal lover, I thought I understood the responsibilities of adopting a new furry friend. This post, describing the training and socialization of new puppy Madison, opened my eyes to all that goes into ensuring your puppy has the best life possible. And a spoiler alert ... the part about Madison and prior resident Bailie becoming best friends will warm your heart. I can’t think of anything more gratifying than adding a new family member that blends in seamlessly and with joy all around.

On the other end of the inter-dog relationship continuum ... what do you do when the two fur babies you love most in the world struggle to exist in the same house? I understand how stressful this is - especially feeling like you always have to be on guard. When I adopted Bear 10 years ago (I wasn't looking for a second cat ... he was homeless and winter was coming ...) ... he terrorized my almost 16 year old cat. I want to believe he was just trying to play and be friendly ... but he just did not pick up on the cues to leave Kitty alone. I used a water spray in the worst cases - it gave me enough time to grab him ... but it felt like my life was constant cat fights. I was nervous leaving them alone or even getting a shower. I did tons of research and introduced them properly and wracked my brain to help the situation ... with no success. Any time I closed Bear (or Kitty) in a room by themselves for a break for everyone ... Bear would HOWL on the other side of the door as Kitty and rip up carpet trying to dig to the other side. And he would howl for hours (four hours ... six hours ...) and couldn't be distracted. This howling stressed Kitty out just as much (or maybe even more) than them being in the same room ... so I couldn't win! Eventually, after 9 months, we had a very fragile peace and then Kitty died. I've always wondered if Bear's adoption had something to do with that. You love them both ... you refuse to give up either ... but everyone is stressed and miserable. Because of my experiences, I can definitely relate to this post describing an incident between Shadow and Ducky ... and the agonizing on the part of the human to try to explain and remedy the situation for everyone involved.

We always love Animal Shelter Volunteer Life - and we appreciate the focus they give to cats up for adoption at PAWS (Pet Animal Welfare Society of Norwalk, Connecticut). Tramper is just one of the incredible kitties available.  The volunteers that put together this great blog, Kevin and Tracey, are amazing advocates for animal welfare. And PAWS offers a lot of great programs including a "pension plan" for senior pets up for adoption. One drawback? You will want to adopt every single kitty featured on ASVL ... Momma was particularly taken with cutie Sniffles a few weeks ago ... and PAWS only adopts to people within reasonable driving distance of Norwalk, Connecticut. 😢

  1. Thank you so much for featuring us this week! Right now I'm at a loss with Ducky and what to do about her brat-itude. She's definitely - as your co-host Jodi would say - my challenge dog. I love her to the moon and back; but this lashing out at poor Shadow for no good reason has to stop. I guess it means another visit with the vet.
